Cerulean Blue Is A Gentle Breeze

"I've just got to say that your uniform is really the most soothing shade of blue. I'm not kidding you. I notice those things. It's a sky blue. Very calming. Very tranquil. I think the word for that particular shade is Cerulean, actually. Cerulean Blue. Cerulean makes me think of a breeze. A gentle breeze. Cerulean is like a gentle breeze. Cerulean Blue is a gentle breeze. . ." - Robert Patrick Modell, "Pusher"

Welcome to my blog, Cerulean Blue: a relatively witty commentary on culture, society, travel, politics, sports, and the arts - basically anything which sparks my interest.

ABOUT THE BLOG:
These diatribes began as various entries on LiveJournal.com in the spring of 2004. In the fall of 2006, however, I decided to move into the blogging world, and focus exclusively on this type of writing, rather than ranting about me. So I moved all the relevant entries over to Blogspot, and backdated them accordingly to match when they were originally written. All real-time posts occur post September 2006. This introduction is backdated as not to interrupt the flow of the blog, and will be updated as I see fit.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Since I want this blog to be less about me and more about my view of the world -- something which I think says more about who I am than the more mundane minutiae of my life -- I don't care to ramble on about such meaningless things as my favorite song (I don't have one). But if you must know something, here are the basics:

My name is Jess, and I'm 23.

I graduated from Wheaton College in Massachusetts in the spring of 2004, where I majored in Creative Writing and Theatre Studies and Dance. I began work on my master's degree in writing that fall at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. I spent the summer of 2005 studying abroad at Oxford University in the United Kingdom, and graduated from Dartmouth in the fall of 2006. I'm now interning as editor-in-chief of a quarterly magazine, and working as an editorial assistant for a literary agent.

I've been a dancer for 18 seasons, and it is a huge part of my life. Movement and music are critical to my ability to be a harmonious human being.

I'm funny.

If you understand the title of this blog, then you know something else about me. Have a cookie.

WHAT IS CERULEAN BLUE?
For those of you not "in the know," the title Cerulean Blue, taken from the quote printed above, refers to a famous episode of The X-Files television series. In said episode, the antagonist, Robert Patrick Modell, had the paranormal ability to hypnotize his victims with the sound of his voice. With a simple suggestion, he literally "pushed" his will onto others, and thus forced them to kill or otherwise injure themselves. With his most famous line, "Cerulean Blue is a gentle breeze," Modell managed to convince a cop stopped at an intersection to pull out into an oncoming Mack truck. The Mack truck was painted blue, and the name painted on the side of it was "Cerulean." Therefore, Modell's soothing words had manipulated the poor officer into believing that there was no truck, just a gentle breeze coming his way.

So why, then, would I want to associate my blog with a fictional serial killer? Well. . . let's just say I have an opinion on just about everything, and sometimes my ability to argue can be very persuasive. Almost as persuasive as our friendly neighborhood psychopath, Modell. However, I enjoy arguing different viewpoints, and almost no one has been injured by listening to me thus far, so never fear.

Also, I loved The X-Files and I just thought it was a sweet line. If I haven't frightened you away yet, stick around and enjoy!

That's one of my favorite episodes too. I wasn't sure if this blog was still active, but I figured I'd leave a comment anyway. Don't really know what else to say, though, so I'll stop here.
